Nelson & Tasman, New Zealand's understated jewel

Nelson & Tasman

The heart of New Zealand

Nelson and the Tasman region beckons as one of New Zealand’s best-kept secrets, where breathtaking natural beauty meets genuine local charm.

As a convenient gateway to the South Island, the region offers effortless travel with easy airport access and nearby ferry connections.

Whether you are seeking tranquillity or adventure, Nelson Tasman offers warm hospitality and unforgettable experiences.

Three national parks, picture-perfect beaches, and landscapes ranging from golden coasts to alpine valleys create a playground for every kind of explorer.

Consistent sunshine sets the stage for both outdoor thrills and slow, sun-soaked days.

This is a place where you can slip seamlessly into the community, where relaxed local character blends naturally with world-class creativity. Savour fresh-from-sea-and-soil produce at cafés, fine dining favourites, and acclaimed vineyards.

Explore the thriving arts scene in galleries and studios, and connect with the deep spirituality of Māori culture at sacred sites.

Here, nature remains unspoiled and experiences feel profoundly authentic, inviting you to immerse yourself wholeheartedly in a region unlike any other.

Why we love it

Our favourite activities

Nelson / Whakatu

With its gardens and gorgeous sunsets, looks across Tasman Bay. Streets and Parks are named after Admiral Nelson and his exploits, as well as the names of the ships that brought the first pioneers over from England. Forestry, fruit and fishing are the main focus of Nelson’s port, while to the west, apple orchards, tobacco and hop plantations occupy the land.

Kaiteriteri / Abel Tasman National Park

Loved for its beautiful golden sand beach, the sunny town of Kaiteriteri is a launching place for trips into the Abel Tasman National Park. This attractive beach town is 13 kilometres from Motueka and handy to the Abel Tasman National Park. Known for its beautiful golden sand (made of quartz and mica particles) and clear blue-green water, Kaiteriteri has a motor camp, motels, a general store and a choice of places to eat (check out the seafood). Local hikes include Withells Walk and Kaka Pah Point. From Kaiteriteri you can catch a water taxi or tour into the Abel Tasman National Park; you can also hire kayaks or arrange to go seal swimming.
